MIDIgrid is a powerful Music program that provides new ways to explore, perform and therefore compose music.
MIDIgrid displays an array of cells each of which can contain a single note, a chord or a musical sequence or percussion pattern.
|
The cells in the grid can be played using a mouse, trackerball etc., or triggered from a MIDI instrument. Chords and notes can be played once or sustained, sequences can be played once, repeated and looped. The grid size and display can be changed to suit the style of the music and the needs of the composer and performer. This means that MIDIgrid can be used as a musical instrument which can be designed and configured to suit almost any musical style and structure. As well as supporting live performance and exploration MIDIgrid allows you to compose music by creating your own contents for the cells and by using MIDIgrid's Record mode. Full editing facilities are provided for creating and changing chords and sequences. The Chord editor provides choices over the pitch, volume and instrument for each note giving possibilities for complex and unusual chords to be created which can be easily triggered from MIDIgrid using either the mouse or a MIDI keyboard. The Sequence editor uses "piano roll" notation to display notes. Each note can be changed in length, position, pitch and volume. MIDI files can be loaded into a box on the grid and played and edited as a sequence. Sequences can be looped when they are played. Boxes can be triggered from any MIDI device which means that switches and variable control devices such as ultrasonic beams can be used to play MIDIgrid. You don't have to touch the computer to play music |
